Sustainability – What is it? What Does It Mean To You?
It means operating our business in such a way that it causes minimal harm to all living creatures, it means operating our business in such a manner that it does not deplete our environment, but rather enriches it. It reinforces our working together for a common good. Sustainability means operating our business so as to grow and earn profit while recognizing and supporting the economic and non economic aspirations of all people both inside and outside our company for which we depend. The only way to succeed in today’s interdependent world is to embrace sustainability. It requires companies to identify a wide range of stakeholders to whom the company may be accountable. In the long run this will create more social, economic and environmental success for us all. We create a “base line”, find out where we are and set goals—“Where we want to be”…
BesTech Refrigerant Reclaim Program
Our cylinder exchange/swap program is similar to traditional industrial gas programs and is designed for speed and efficiency. A fee is charged to cover the cost of processing the reclaimed refrigerant through an EPA-Certified reclaim company and also covers the cost of maintaining the cylinders. This program reduces the potential for financial and legal liabilities and safety hazards for the participants.
Protection of the ozone is everyone’s responsibility. Reclaiming refrigerant is one of the more positive steps towards meeting today’s environmental challenges.
According to EPA projections, there will be a 27.5 million pound shortage of r-22 in 2010. HVAC business owners and service technicians can help reduce the impact of this anticipated shortage by improving their service practices and implementing a sound refrigerant reclamation/management plan. Taking action now will help increase the amount of refrigerant being recycled, control price volatility and ensure business continuity. The BesTech Refrigerant Reclaim Program is a quick and easy way to start making a difference today.
Not only is recovery of refrigerant a great benefit to the ozone, but purposely venting refrigerant into the atmosphere is a violation of Environmental Protection Agency rules and is subject to large fines and penalties. The EPA is stepping up enforcement activities and conducting random compliance audits of refrigerant users. Participating in the cylinder exchange program creates permanent records that can be used to show reclamation compliance.
Baker believes that recycling is a way to better the HVAC industry. We offer metal recylcing at many of our nationwide locations. Properly disposing of metal waste takes time and space. We can do it for you! Please check with your favorite Baker sales center to see where metal recycling is available in your area.
As part of our sustainability program we will be supplying all locations with a recycle bin for old mercury thermostats. The bins will be placed in a convenient location in the sales centers for customers to dispose of thermostats that contain mercury.
The recycling containers are reusable plastic bins that hold up to 100 waste mercury-contining thermostats. Each container is clearly marked and indicates no other products than mercury thermostats are to be placed into the container.
This is another step for Baker towards sustainability - and we couldn't be more proud.
